Draculi: Game Description & Official Manual

Part I: Game Description

1.1 Overview and Lore

Step into a gothic realm of shadowy corridors, blood-soaked strategy, and eternal night in Draculi, an intense turn-based tactical board-strategy game set within The Crimson Citadel. Set in the mist-shrouded peaks of 18th-century Transylvania, Draculi pits a newly awakened Vampire Lord and his loyal nocturnal thralls against a determined band of Van Helsing-inspired Monster Hunters and angry Villagers. Merging classic grid-based movement with dynamic line-of-sight mechanics, blood-resource management, and day-night cycle transformations, this game delivers a deeply atmospheric duel between hunter and hunted.

In Draculi, players choose to command either the Vampire Coven or the Hunter Syndicate. The Vampire Lord, Draculi, begins the match weakened from centuries of slumber, hidden deep within his subterranean crypt. To regain full potency, he must stalk the perimeter of his castle, feeding on local villagers, corrupting town guard patrols, and avoiding deadly sunlight patches beaming through crumbling stone stained-glass windows. Conversely, the Hunter Syndicate must breach the citadel gates, track footprints left in the dust, utilize UV-lit lanterns, deploy holy water traps, and drive a wooden stake through Draculi's heart before midnight passes and his immortal army fully awakens.

Designed for tactical thinkers, dark-fantasy purists, and fans of asymmetric strategy games, Draculi strikes an ideal balance between hidden-movement stealth and explosive grid combat. Every step across the damp flagstones is accompanied by crisp atmospheric soundscapes, dynamic fog-of-war lighting, and visceral combat animations. Featuring high-definition 2D vector visuals, a brooding dark-gothic orchestral score, customizable character loadouts, and over 150 unique gothic scenarios across four sprawling map sectors, Draculi offers an endlessly thrilling battle for ultimate dominance over Transylvania.

1.2 Component Inventory & Player HUD Layout

Whether navigated via precise point-and-click interactions on desktop screens or smooth touch controls on mobile displays, Draculi provides a clean, highly immersive tactical interface:

  • 1 Primary Battle Arena (The Castle Grid):
    • The Citadel Floor: An $8\times8$ or $10\times10$ tile grid depicting stone chambers, crypts, courtyards, and altar rooms filled with dynamic obstacles, shadows, and light sources.
    • Fog-of-War & Sunlight Grid: Dynamic overlays showing line-of-sight restrictions, shadowed movement corridors, and fatal sunlight beams.
  • 1 Character Action Bar:
    • Action Point (AP) Tracker: Displays remaining movement and combat points for active units during a turn.
    • Blood Pool Gauge (Vampire HUD): Tracks accumulated blood essence used to activate supernatural abilities (Mist Form, Bat Swarm, Hypnotic Gaze).
    • Holy Arsenal Deck (Hunter HUD): Displays available single-use tactical items (Stake, Holy Water, Garlic Bomb, Mirror Shield).
  • 1 Match HUD & Sector Monitor:
    • Diurnal Dial (Day/Night Tracker): A rotating clock wheel tracking turn cycles from Dusk to Midnight and Dawn.
    • Unit Status Panel: Real-time display showing unit health (HP), armor, active status effects (Bleed, Stun, Burn), and kill counts.

1.3 Visual Aesthetics and Acoustic Atmosphere

Draculi surrounds players with a rich, dark-gothic environment engineered to maximize tension and atmospheric storytelling:

  • Dark Gothic Visuals: High-definition 2D graphics featuring flickering torchlight, dynamic real-time shadows, shimmering red blood particle effects, gothic stone architecture, and cinematic camera zooms during lethal execution attacks.
  • Haunting Acoustic Soundscape: A solemn, brooding soundtrack featuring pipe organs, deep cello arrangements, echoing footfalls on stone, guttural bat shrieks, sizzles of holy water, and sinister voiceovers for the Vampire Lord.

1.4 Core Objectives

The primary victory condition in Draculi depends on the faction chosen at the start of the match:

  • Vampire Coven Objective: Consume a target number of human villagers, convert key town leaders into thralls, or completely eradicate all Hunters before Dawn breaks.
  • Hunter Syndicate Objective: Track down Draculi’s secret coffin, reduce his health to zero, and execute him using a Wooden Stake before his Blood Pool reaches maximum capacity.

Player performance is evaluated through:

  1. Tactical Efficiency: Eliminating enemy units while minimizing friendly casualties.
  2. Stealth Execution: Successfully moving through shadowed zones without being spotted by enemy scouts.
  3. Resource Control: Managing Blood Essence (Vampire) or Holy Water/Ammo inventory (Hunters).
  4. Campaign Rating: Earning 3-Star victory honors across all sector scenarios to unlock legendary character skins and custom map editors.

Part II: Gameplay Instructions

2.1 Core Rules & Movement Mechanics

Mastering Draculi requires a firm grasp of grid movement, action points, vision lines, and line-of-sight concealment.

Rule 1: Action Point (AP) Economy

  • Every turn, each unit receives a base pool of 4 Action Points (AP).
  • Moving 1 tile costs $1\text{ AP}$. Attacking costs $2\text{ AP}$. Using advanced abilities or equipping items costs between $1\text{ and 3 AP}$.
  • Unused AP can be banked into the "Overwatch / Ambush" stance, allowing a unit to automatically strike any enemy entering their line-of-sight during the opponent's turn.

$$\text{Total Turn Allowance} = \text{Base AP (4)} + \text{Faction Trait Modifiers} - \text{Terrain Costs}$$

Rule 2: Shadows, Light, and Line-of-Sight

  • Shadowed Tiles: Units standing in shadowed tiles are completely invisible to enemies further than 2 tiles away, unless revealed by a lantern or spell.
  • Sunlight & Torches: Standing in sunlight tiles inflicts continuous holy burn damage to Vampire units ($-20\text{ HP}$ per turn). Torches reduce the Vampire's stealth coefficient.
  • Line-of-Sight (LoS): Solid walls, pillars, and heavy furniture block vision guidelines completely.

Rule 3: The Blood & Faith Resource Systems

  • Vampire Blood Pool: Draculi gains Blood Essence by landing melee attacks on Villagers or Hunters. Blood fuels ultimate abilities like Mist Form (teleportation) and Vampiric Drain.
  • Hunter Faith Meter: Hunters gain Faith points by standing near holy altars or consuming Holy Water. Faith powers protective shields and high-damage silver weapon strikes.

2.2 Game Setup & Match Initialization

  1. Select Battle Arena: Choose a scenario from the Campaign Map (e.g., Crypt of the Fallen, The Great Banqueting Hall, Courtyard Ruins, Town Square).
  2. Choose Faction & Loadout: Select your faction (Vampires vs. Hunters) and assign specialized sub-units (e.g., Thralls, Dire Wolves, Marksmen, Clerics).
  3. Deploy Units: Place your units within designated starting deployment zones along opposite sides of the board.
  4. Initiate Diurnal Clock: Set the match clock to Dusk (Turn 1). The match begins with the Vampire Coven taking the first action.

2.3 Fundamental Tactics & Step-by-Step Strategy

Winning in Draculi requires patience, positioning, and exploiting the environment. Master players utilize four primary strategies:

Technique 1: The Shadow Stalk (Vampire Strategy)

Never attack Hunters head-on! Stick to shadowed wall perimeters, moving from shadow tile to shadow tile. Strike lone Hunters from behind to gain instant Blood Essence, then use Mist Form to retreat back into the darkness before the main Hunter squad can respond.

Technique 2: The Crossfire Lantern Sweep (Hunter Strategy)

Hunters must move in pairs or triangular formations! Equip the lead unit with a Lantern or Flare to illuminate shadowed corridors. Position a Marksman behind the lead unit in Overwatch Stance to automatically shoot any Vampire revealed by the light.

Technique 3: Funneling into Chokepoints

Force your opponent into narrow doorways or tight hallway corridors. Deploy Garlic Bombs or Acid Vials in these bottlenecks to restrict movement, forcing enemies to either take heavy damage or waste AP taking longer routes.

Technique 4: Environmental Traps & Stakes

Keep track of Draculi’s remaining health! When his HP drops below $25\%$, he enters a vulnerable Mist State and attempts to fly back to his Coffin tile. Position a Hunter directly on or adjacent to his coffin with a Stake equipped to finish the match instantly.

2.4 Structure of an Active Gameplay Loop

Gameplay in Draculi progresses through a tactical turn-based structure:

  1. Phase 1: Environment & Diurnal Update
    • The Diurnal Dial ticks forward. Light sources shift position (sunlight beams move across tiles), and active tile hazards tick damage.
  2. Phase 2: Vampire Coven Turn
    • Spend AP to move through shadows, feed on targets, cast blood spells, or set up ambush stances.
  3. Phase 3: Hunter Syndicate Turn
    • Spend AP to sweep areas with lanterns, lay traps, fire silver bolts, or heal wounded allies with holy water.
  4. Phase 4: Turn Settlement & Objective Evaluation
    • Check win conditions (unit deaths, coffin destruction, villager conversion). Proceed to the next turn if both factions remain active.

2.5 Unit & Item Registry

Specialized units and tactical gear dictate the balance of power on the battlefield:

Faction Unit / Item Class Primary Ability / Effect Tactical Role
Vampire Draculi (Lord) Vampiric Bite / Mist Form High-mobility assassin and stealth threat
Vampire Feral Thrall Claw Swipe / Scent Blood Expendable melee frontline unit
Hunter Van Helsing (Leader) Stake Execution / Crossbow High-damage boss hunter and executioner
Hunter Holy Cleric Aura of Light / Cleanse Support unit providing healing and light

2.6 Game Modes

2.6.1 Gothic Campaign (Story Mode)

A rich narrative campaign featuring 12 chapters per faction. Experience Draculi's rise to power or the Hunters' quest to cleanse Transylvania of the undead.

2.6.2 Skirmish Duel (1v1 Local / Online)

  • Gameplay: A direct head-to-head tactical battle on customizable map grids.
  • Mechanics: Draft your squad using a set point budget (e.g., 100 Army Points) to build custom combinations of units and gear.

2.6.3 Night Survival (Wave Defense)

  • Gameplay: Play as a small squad of Hunters defending a church sanctuary against endless waves of vampire thralls and beasts until Dawn breaks!

2.7 Stage Settlement & Scoring Formula

Match results are determined upon fulfilling primary victory conditions:

$$\text{Final Match Score} = (\text{Remaining Unit HP}) + (\text{Turns Saved Bonus} \times 150) + (\text{Unused Resource Points}) - (\text{Casualty Penalties})$$

  • Flawless Victory Bonus: 1,000 Points awarded for winning a match without losing a single unit.
  • Star Rating Thresholds:
    • 1 Star: Achieve primary victory conditions.
    • 2 Stars: Win the match in under 15 turns.
    • 3 Stars: Achieve victory while maintaining over $75\%$ squad health!

2.8 Game End & Victory Conditions

A match of Draculi concludes upon reaching either of two absolute end states:

  1. Vampire Hegemony (Vampire Victory): All Hunters are killed or converted into thralls, or Draculi consumes all required villagers on the map. The sun sets permanently as Draculi claims absolute dominion over the land!
  2. Staked Through the Heart (Hunter Victory): Hunters locate Draculi's coffin and successfully drive a wooden stake into his heart during his vulnerable state. The Vampire Lord dissolves into ash, liberating the realm from darkness!

The commander who masters spatial awareness, controls light and shadow, and manages resources with cold precision earns the title of Master of the Night!

2.9 System Integrity & Field Settings

  • Grid Coordinate Display: Toggleable setting displaying alphanumeric coordinates ($A1 \dots H8$) on tiles for precise tactical planning.
  • Cinematic Camera Controls: Enable or disable dramatic close-up camera angles during critical strikes and spell activations.
  • Cross-Platform Cloud Sync: Profile progress, unlocked unit skins, campaign stars, and custom map creations sync seamlessly across desktop and mobile devices.
