Street Hidden Objects: Game Description & Official Rulebook

Part I: Game Description

1.1 Overview and Lore

Welcome to Street Hidden Objects, an immersive, highly engaging urban exploration visual puzzle game that transforms vibrant cityscape vistas into intricate, multi-layered search missions. Set across the bustling boulevards, historic alleys, sunlit open-air markets, and neon-drenched night districts of Metropolis City, players step into the shoes of Chief Urban Investigators working for the municipal Archive & Discovery Bureau. Your mission: explore richly detailed street scenes, locate cleverly concealed items, uncover forgotten urban artifacts, and restore order to chaotic city blocks.

Unlike basic static hidden-object puzzles, Street Hidden Objects introduces dynamic weather conditions, shifting time-of-day lighting, interactive environmental elements, layered perspective parallax, and timed urban search contracts. Every location—from busy cobblestone farmer markets and vintage record shops to subway entrances and rooftop gardens—is packed with hundreds of hand-drawn objects seamlessly woven into architectural details, storefront displays, reflections, and shadows.

Designed for 1 to 6 players, Street Hidden Objects offers a perfect balance of relaxing observational gameplay, sharp cognitive focus, competitive speed-searching, and cooperative family investigation. Whether played as a peaceful solo observation exercise, a brain-training tool for enhancing spatial awareness, or a fast-paced head-to-head search duel, Street Hidden Objects delivers an extraordinarily satisfying celebration of visual detection and urban discovery.

1.2 Component Inventory

Every standard physical publication or digital interactive edition of Street Hidden Objects includes high-density, beautifully detailed components designed for maximum visual clarity and intuitive interaction:

1.3 Visual Aesthetics and Design

Street Hidden Objects embraces a rich, highly detailed illustrative realism visual style. Scenes feature rich ambient lighting, realistic depth of field, and intricate urban textures—brindle brickwork, glowing neon signage, weathered wood grain, and reflective puddle surfaces. To guarantee 100% accessibility for all players, target objects are integrated using natural scale, distinct silhouette contours, and color-blind friendly visual contrast, ensuring every item can be identified through keen observation without arbitrary visual distortion.

1.4 Core Objectives

The primary objective in Street Hidden Objects is to achieve the highest total Investigation Score by scanning detailed street scenes, identifying hidden target objects listed on active Inspection Cards, marking their exact coordinates, and completing search contracts before time or clues run out.

Points are awarded through:

  1. Target Object Discoveries: Correctly identifying and identifying target items within a scene.
  2. Precision Streak Combos: Locating consecutive items rapidly without making false identification clicks or taps.
  3. Special Artifact Finds: Uncovering rare historical bonus items hidden across multiple city districts.
  4. Contract Efficiency Bonuses: Clearing complete scene checklists with minimal hint usage before the timer expires.

Part II: Gameplay Instructions

2.1 Core Mechanics & Search Laws

Mastering Street Hidden Objects requires sharp visual tracking, pattern recognition, systematic scanning, and disciplined spatial organization.

Law 1: The Target Verification and Identification Rule

  • An investigator begins their turn by selecting an active target item from their Inspection Card checklist and scanning the street scene canvas.
  • To identify an item, the player places their Viewfinder or magnifying reticle directly over the object and announces its location coordinates (e.g., "Grid Quadrant B-4, storefront window!").
  • If the identification is correct: The item is marked off the ledger, points are recorded, and the player maintains their active Search Streak.
  • If the identification is incorrect: The attempt counts as a false alarm, breaking any active combo multiplier and incurring a small time or point penalty.

Law 2: The Interactive Environment Rule

  • Certain target objects are located behind interactive street elements (e.g., inside a parked delivery truck, under a shop awning, behind a opened newspaper, or inside a phone booth).
  • Players must spend 1 Interaction Action to shift, open, or slide the foreground element to reveal the hidden space behind it before identifying the object.

Law 3: Time-of-Day and Filter Mechanics

  • Some street scenes feature Day/Night Cycling or weather overlays (e.g., autumn rain, winter snow, twilight shadows).
  • Players must use specialized Viewfinder filters (such as Ultraviolet Streetlights or Rain-Dampening Lenses) to illuminate shadowed alleyways or isolate targets hidden within weather textures.

Law 4: The Hint Meter Preservation Rule

  • Each player starts a scenario with a limited number of Bureau Clue Tokens (Hints).
  • Activating a Clue Token highlights a specific quadrant containing an unfound item, but deducting unused hint bonuses from your final scenario score.

2.2 Game Setup

  1. Select and Mount the Street Canvas: Choose a Street Scene Canvas (e.g., "Downtown Farmers Market") and secure it inside the Master Panorama Frame in the center of the play area.
  2. Distribute Inspection Cards: Shuffle the Target Inspection Cards corresponding to the selected scene and deal 3 cards to each investigator.
  3. Equip Investigator Dashboards: Provide each player with an Investigation Dashboard, Viewfinder lens, and 3 Bureau Clue Tokens. Set score trackers to zero ($0$).
  4. Establish the Timer (Optional): For timed competitive play, place the 60-second Urban Patrol Sand Timer beside the scene frame.
  5. Determine Lead Investigator: The player who most recently visited a city downtown, took a walking tour, or solved a visual puzzle takes the first turn. Play proceeds clockwise.

2.3 Fundamental Tactics & Step-by-Step Play

Succeeding in Street Hidden Objects requires structured visual search techniques rather than random scanning. Master investigators rely on four primary tactical search methods:

Technique 1: Systematic Quadrant Grid Scanning

Never let your eyes wander randomly across a busy street scene! Divide the image mentally into a 3x3 grid. Scan each quadrant fully from top-left to bottom-right, checking architectural edges, signs, and ground textures systematically before moving to the next box.

Technique 2: Silhouette & Negative Space Detection

Instead of looking for a complete object (such as a full umbrella), look for specific silhouette outlines, geometric curves, or unusual color anomalies against uniform backgrounds (e.g., a curved handle sticking out from a stack of crates).

Technique 3: Architectural Category Grouping

Group your target items by environment type. Look for tools near construction scaffolding, fruit or flowers near market stalls, and papers or letters near post boxes or trash receptacles.

Technique 4: Clue Token Conservation

Save your Bureau Clue Tokens for tiny, single-pixel objects or items tucked into dark corners late in the scenario. Early items are easily spotted with systematic grid scanning.

2.4 Structure of a Play Session

A standard turn in Street Hidden Objects progresses through four structured, sequential phases:

  1. Phase 1: Checklist Inspection
    • The active player reviews their active Target Inspection Card checklist (listing 5 items to find).
  2. Phase 2: Visual Search & Exploration
    • The player scans the central street scene canvas using their systematic grid strategy.
    • If necessary, the player uses an interaction action to open doors, lift awnings, or switch viewing filters.
  3. Phase 3: Identification & Verification
    • The player places their reticle over the target, calling out the item and location coordinates.
    • The table or application verifies the match. Points and combo multipliers are awarded for correct finds.
  4. Phase 4: Turn Handover & Ledger Refresh
    • If all items on the active Inspection Card are found, the card is archived and a new card is drawn. Turn passes clockwise.

2.5 Object Category & Scoring Matrix

Target Classification Visual Difficulty Base Point Value Special Search Conditions
Standard Street Item Low (Visible Foreground) 100 Points Direct line-of-sight find; builds basic combos
Concealed Urban Item Medium (Interactive Layer) 250 Points Requires moving foreground elements (doors, signs)
Micro-Detail Artifact High (Camouflaged/Small) 400 Points Blends naturally into brickwork, shadows, or reflections
Historical City Treasure Rare Unique Item 600 Points Multi-part discovery across multiple scene quadrants
Speed Search Bonus Found under 10 seconds $+150$ Extra Points Awarded for rapid precision identification
Precision Streak Combo 5 Consecutive Finds $+300$ Combo Bonus Multiplies turn points without incorrect guesses

2.6 Game Modes

2.6.1 Investigator Campaign (1 to 6 Players - Classic Strategy)

The core investigative experience. Players take turns searching scenes, clearing checklists, uncovering historical urban lore, and accumulating high scores across a multi-district city tour.

2.6.2 Street Sprint (1 to 4 Players - Real-Time Speed Search)

  • Setup: A single street canvas is mounted. A 3-minute master timer is started.
  • Gameplay: Turn order is eliminated! All players simultaneously race to find as many target items from a master ledger as possible before time expires.
  • Victory: The player with the highest verified find tally when the timer hits zero wins!

2.6.3 Detective Solo Case (1 Player - Observation Challenge)

  • Gameplay: A single player attempts to clear an entire street scene (50 hidden objects) in the fewest total reticle placements possible, aiming for a 100% flawless accuracy rating under strict time constraints.

2.7 Completion & Final Scoring Matrix

When a scenario's inspection ledgers are fully cleared, players perform the Final Bureau Audit:

  • Total Object Score: Cumulative points accumulated from all verified item discoveries during the game.
  • Unused Hint Bonus: $+200$ Points for each unspent Bureau Clue Token remaining in your dashboard inventory.
  • Full Scene Clearance Bonus: $+500$ Points awarded to players who successfully complete all inspection cards for a district.
  • False Alarm Penalty: Subtract 50 Points for every incorrect identification attempt made during your turn.

2.8 Game End & Victory Conditions

A game of Street Hidden Objects officially concludes upon reaching any of the following resolution triggers:

  1. District Clearance (Victory): Every target object listed on all active inspection cards for the street scene has been discovered and marked.
  2. Timer Expiration: In Street Sprint mode, the master countdown clock reaches 0:00.
  3. Deck Exhaustion: All Target Inspection Cards for the chosen city district have been successfully completed.

The investigator with the highest overall Investigation Score recorded on their dashboard is crowned the Chief Inspector of Metropolis City!

2.9 Rule Clarifications & Bureau Etiquette

  • No Pointing or Distraction: Non-active players must refrain from pointing at the canvas board, making subtle hand gestures toward targets, or distracting the active investigator during their search turn.
  • Single-Reticle Touch Rule: Once a player places their Viewfinder lens onto a specific grid coordinate on the canvas, that placement counts as their official guess location for the turn.
  • Fair Angle Access: All players must have an unobstructed, equal viewing distance and angle to the central panorama board throughout the entire match.
