Daily Guess
Daily Guess: Game Description & Official Rulebook
Part I: Game Description
1.1 Overview and Lore
Welcome to Daily Guess, an engaging, multi-disciplinary daily trivia and deduction game designed to test players' spatial reasoning, historical knowledge, cultural literacy, and numerical intuition. Set in the intellectual universe of the Archive of Universal Knowledge, players act as Chief Investigators attempting to crack a freshly released daily mystery dossier before running out of deduction attempts or visual clues.
Daily Guess blends the daily social ritual of single-puzzle online games with rich, tangible tabletop and digital mechanics. Instead of focusing on just one subject, Daily Guess cycles through dynamic daily challenge archetypes: GeoGuess (identifying secret global coordinates from panoramic visual clues), Chronology (pinpointing the exact year of historic events), Culture Code (identifying iconic films, music, or literature from minimalist art panels), and Quantity Quest (estimating precise physical or statistical metrics). Players submit their guesses on a sliding scale, receiving color-coded heat feedback (Hot, Warm, Cold) and directional vectors (North/South, Higher/Lower, Earlier/Later) to narrow down the target answer within six strategic turns.
Designed for 1 to 6 players, Daily Guess offers flexible gameplay options: from a quiet, analytical solo daily ritual to competitive party showdowns where players race against the clock to make the most accurate deduction using the fewest possible clues. With sleek minimalism, color-blind accessible feedback systems, modular clue decks, and dynamic distance-based scoring, Daily Guess delivers a satisfying brain exercise every single day.
1.2 Component Inventory
Every physical edition or interactive digital suite of Daily Guess includes high-quality components designed for smooth scanning, secret inputting, and precise tracking:
- 1 Central Deduction Board: A magnetic folding matrix featuring a dual-axis guessing track, a Clue Reveal Slot, a 6-Turn Attempt Track, and a integrated Heat Indicator Dial.
- 365 Daily Dossier Cards: Sealed, double-sided archive cards providing a year's worth of unique daily puzzles across four distinct challenge categories.
- 6 Investigator Secret Slate Boards: Dry-erase player boards with hidden privacy shields, allowing players to formulate numbers, coordinates, and terms in secret.
- 6 Precision Slider Pegs: Magnetic indicator pegs used to plot points, years, and values along the board's primary spectrum track.
- 1 Clue Reveal Lens: A specialized filter tool used to unmask hidden hints on Dossier Cards as turns progress.
- 1 Master Heat-Feedback Deck: 50 color-coded Feedback Cards (Hot, Warm, Mild, Cold, Freezing) used by the Reader to provide distance feedback.
- 100 Investigator Token Chips: High-density scoring chips valued at 100, 500, and 1,000 intelligence points.
- 1 Master Rulebook & Daily Archive Companion: Containing handicap rules, tournament guidelines, and historical context notes for all 365 daily dossiers.
1.3 Visual Aesthetics and Design
Daily Guess features a clean modern archival studio aesthetic. Crisp white backgrounds, deep indigo typography, and vibrant accents create an uncluttered, high-contrast interface. To ensure 100% universal accessibility and color-blind safety, every feedback cue combines distinct geometric shapes with color indicators (Red/Flame = Hot, Orange/Sun = Warm, Yellow/Circle = Mild, Blue/Triangle = Cold, Cyan/Snowflake = Freezing). Directional vector arrows explicitly state relative location or scale (e.g., "Earlier + North").
1.4 Core Objectives
The primary objective in Daily Guess is to deduce the exact daily secret target—whether a geographical location, a historic calendar year, a cultural masterpiece, or a numerical stat—in 6 or fewer attempts, using progressive clue reveals and proximity feedback to maximize your score.
Points and performance are evaluated through:
- Early Turn Deduction: Solving the daily mystery on early turns yields maximum point payouts.
- Proximity Precision: Earning points based on how close your final incorrect guess was to the true target value.
- Clue Efficiency Bonus: Solving the puzzle without opening secondary visual or textual hints.
- Daily Streak Multipliers: Maintaining consecutive correct daily puzzle solves over multiple playing sessions.
Part II: Gameplay Instructions
2.1 Core Mechanics & Deduction Laws
Mastering Daily Guess requires a firm understanding of numerical bounding, spatial estimation, directional feedback vectors, and strategic turn usage.
Law 1: The Law of Progressive Clue Unveiling
- A Daily Dossier contains 4 distinct Clue Layers (Layer A: Broad Context, Layer B: Regional/Category Detail, Layer C: Key Visual Fragment, Layer D: Precision Hint).
- At Turn 1, only Layer A is revealed to players.
- If no player correctly guesses the target, the active Reader unmasks the next clue layer at the start of Turns 2, 4, and 6, continually narrowing the target parameters.
Law 2: The Proximity Feedback Vector (Heat System)
- When a player submits a guess, the Reader calculates the difference between the guess and the actual secret target using the Dossier Calibration Matrix.
- The Reader provides two pieces of feedback:
- Thermal Proximity:
- Hot: Within 5% of the target value / distance.
- Warm: Within 15% of the target value / distance.
- Mild: Within 30% of the target value / distance.
- Cold: Within 50% of the target value / distance.
- Freezing: Greater than 50% distance from the target.
- Directional Vector: An explicit directional guidance indicator (e.g., "Higher / Further East" or "Earlier in Time").
- Thermal Proximity:
Law 3: Secret Input & Simultaneous Guessing
- All participating investigators write their guesses simultaneously onto their Secret Slate Boards behind their privacy shields.
- Once all slates are locked, players reveal their guesses together. The reader processes each guess along the primary track to determine individual proximity feedback.
Law 4: The Six-Attempt Limit
- Players have a maximum of 6 turns (attempts) to deduce the exact target.
- If a player fails to land within the exact target tolerance zone by the end of Turn 6, the mystery is unsolved, no completion points are awarded, and their active daily streak resets.
2.2 Game Setup
- Set Up the Deduction Board: Unfold the central board in the middle of the play area. Place the turn tracking peg on Turn 1.
- Select the Daily Dossier: Draw the designated card for the current day from the Dossier Box and slide it into the Clue Reveal Frame, keeping the answer panel hidden behind the Reader Shield.
- Appoint the Reader / Archive Keeper: Select one player (or rotate each round) to act as the Reader. In digital modes, the game acts as the automated Reader.
- Distribute Investigator Equipment: Give each player a Secret Slate Board, a dry-erase marker, and a set of 1,000 starting Investigator Tokens.
- Initialize Clue Layer A: The Reader reads aloud Clue Layer A on the dossier card and reveals the initial visual fragment in the Clue Slot.
- Begin Turn 1: All players prepare their slates for their opening deductions.
2.3 Fundamental Tactics & Step-by-Step Play
Succeeding in Daily Guess requires analytical thinking, elimination strategies, and calculated risk-taking. Master investigators rely on four core tactical principles:
Technique 1: Bounding Box Estimation (The Bracket Strategy)
Instead of making wild guesses, use your early turns to establish wide high/low boundaries! If your first guess is "Cold - Lower," make a significantly higher second guess to create an upper ceiling, effectively locking the target within a known bracket.
Technique 2: Clue Efficiency Preservation
Do not rush your Turn 1 submission on vague clues. Take time to analyze all subtle details—such as architectural styles, shadow directions, or typography on visual fragments—before locking in your choice.
Technique 3: Vector Triangulation
Pay close attention to opponents' feedback! In multi-player competitive modes, observing that an opponent's guess was "Warm - Higher" while yours was "Mild - Lower" lets you narrow down the correct value instantly.
Technique 4: Conservative Turn-6 Safety Guesses
If you reach Turn 6 without a definitive answer, abandon high-risk exact guesses. Choose a balanced value right in the middle of your remaining proximity bracket to secure partial distance points and protect your streak.
2.4 Structure of a Play Session
A standard round in Daily Guess progresses through four structured phases:
- Phase 1: Clue Unveiling & Analysis
- The Reader presents the active Clue Layer for the current turn (Layers revealed on Turns 1, 2, 4, and 6).
- Players analyze the text, image fragment, or numerical context.
- Phase 2: Secret Deduction Submission
- Each player writes their proposed answer (year, distance, coordinate, or stat) onto their Secret Slate Board.
- Slates are turned face-down to signal readiness.
- Phase 3: Public Reveal & Vector Feedback
- Players flip their slates simultaneously.
- The Reader checks each guess against the Dossier Calibration Matrix and provides individual thermal ratings (Hot/Cold) and directional arrows.
- Phase 4: Turn Advancement or Victory Declaration
- If a player hits the exact target (or within exact victory tolerance), they declare "Daily Solved!" and claim top points.
- If no player completes the solution and turns remain, advance the Turn Marker by 1, reveal the next Clue Layer (if applicable), and proceed to the next turn.
2.5 Daily Challenge Categories & Proximity Scales
| Category Name | Focus & Subject Matter | Target Unit Type | Proximity "Hot" Threshold | Proximity "Warm" Threshold |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GeoGuess | Global geography, landmarks, cities | Distance (Kilometers / Miles) | Within $100\text{ km}$ | Within $500\text{ km}$ |
| Chronology | Historical events, inventions, media | Time (Calendar Years) | Within 2 Years | Within 10 Years |
| Quantity Quest | Statistics, science metrics, populations | Number (Absolute Scale) | Within 5% of Value | Within 15% of Value |
| Culture Code | Literature, fine arts, music release | Year / Rank Index | Within 1 Step/Year | Within 5 Steps/Years |
2.6 Game Modes
2.6.1 Classic Daily Ritual (1 Player - Solo Strategy)
A single player solves the daily dossier independently, aiming to complete the challenge in as few turns as possible while maintaining a multi-day streak on their personal tracking sheet.
2.6.2 Investigator Arena (2 to 6 Players - Competitive Head-to-Head)
- Setup: All players attempt the same daily dossier simultaneously.
- Gameplay: Points are awarded based on speed and accuracy. The player who correctly identifies the target in the fewest turns claims the full daily point pool.
- Victory: The player with the highest total score after 7 distinct daily cards wins the match!
2.6.3 Team Relay Deduction (4 to 6 Players - Cooperative Play)
- Gameplay: Players work in pairs, alternating who writes the guess on each turn without communicating verbally. The team must rely purely on tracking previous guess feedback to reach the target together.
2.7 Completion & Final Scoring Matrix
At the conclusion of a round, scores are logged on the Archive Investigator Ledger:
- Turn 1 Direct Hit: $+5,000$ Points (Maximum Intelligence Payout)
- Turn 2 Direct Hit: $+3,500$ Points
- Turn 3 Direct Hit: $+2,500$ Points
- Turn 4 Direct Hit: $+1,500$ Points
- Turn 5 Direct Hit: $+1,000$ Points
- Turn 6 Direct Hit: $+500$ Points
- Proximity Consolation (Off-Target): $+100$ Points for ending within "Hot" distance on Turn 6 without an exact match.
- Unused Clue Bonus: $+300$ Points for every unrevealed clue layer remaining when solved.
- Failed Mystery Penalty: $0$ Points awarded; daily streak resets to zero.
2.8 Game End & Victory Conditions
A game session of Daily Guess officially ends upon reaching any of the following triggers:
- Exact Target Deduction: A player successfully lands within the exact target parameters on or before Turn 6.
- Turn Limit Exhaustion: Turn 6 completes without any player making a successful deduction.
- Campaign Series Conclusion: In multi-dossier party play, all scheduled daily cards (e.g., a 7-day weekly pack) have been completed.
The investigator who accumulates the highest overall score across the session is officially awarded the title of Grand Archivist of Universal Knowledge!
2.9 Rule Clarifications & Studio Etiquette
- Slate Modification Limits: Once a player turns their Secret Slate Board face-down, their written guess is locked and cannot be erased or altered for that turn.
- No External References: Players are strictly forbidden from using smartphones, atlases, or internet searches during an active session.
- Reader Neutrality: The appointed Reader must maintain an even tone and avoid giving away hints through facial expressions or body language when reviewing guesses.
