Country Labyrinth 4
Country Labyrinth 4: Game Description & Official Rulebook
Part I: Game Description
1.1 Overview and Lore
Welcome to Country Labyrinth 4, the fourth installment in the critically acclaimed geography-strategy maze series. Moving beyond national borders and city grids, Country Labyrinth 4 takes players on an epic journey across global continental highways, cultural trade passages, and geographic biomes. Players step into the boots of Master Navigators and Expedition Directors racing across a dynamic world map where countries function as interconnected, shifting maze chambers.
In Country Labyrinth 4, 1 to 4 players explore an ever-changing globe constructed from geopolitical border tiles, maritime transit lanes, and terrain passage tiles. The core gameplay revolves around spatial tile placement, geography-based trivia routing, resource management, and tactical border control. Navigators must construct continuous land and sea transit corridors across foreign nations, manage passage visas, navigate natural geographical obstacles (such as mountain ranges, desert expanses, and oceanic straits), and outmaneuver rival expeditions to reach global checkpoint capitals.
Combining real-world geographical learning, deep spatial maze construction, variable player powers, and competitive hand management, Country Labyrinth 4 delivers an immensely rewarding, educational, and high-octane tabletop strategy experience. Will you map out the ultimate transcontinental highway and reach the final capital, or will sudden border closures and diplomatic roadblocks leave your convoy stranded in the wilderness?
1.2 Component Inventory
Every standard physical publication or digital edition of Country Labyrinth 4 includes high-density, beautifully detailed components designed for international exploration:
- 1 Central World Hemisphere Board: A recessed magnetic game canvas featuring global grid coordinates, biome tracks, and capital city hubs.

1.3 Visual Aesthetics and Design
Country Labyrinth 4 features a vibrant, modern cartographic aesthetic. Tiles are styled after high-definition satellite topographies blended with classic vintage globe styling. Each country tile displays accurate geographical features, flag iconography, capital designations, and distinct border outlines. To guarantee complete accessibility for visual ease, all biomes (Tundra, Desert, Rainforest, Mountain, Plains) pair distinct color schemes with clear terrain texture symbols (e.g., Mountain = Peak Icons, Desert = Wave Dunes, Rainforest = Leaf Clusters).
1.4 Core Objectives
The primary objective in Country Labyrinth 4 is to accumulate the highest total Global Navigation Score (GNS) by the time the final country tile is laid or the main expedition clock expires. Points are awarded through:
- Capital Checkpoint Visits: Successfully navigating your convoy through designated capital city tiles.
- Transcontinental Routes: Building the longest continuous transit line across adjacent countries and continents.
- Passport Collections: Gathering diverse sets of Passport Stamp Tokens from different global regions (Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania).
- Geographical Knowledge Bonuses: Answering optional terrain and country trivia challenges during border crossing phases.
Part II: Gameplay Instructions
2.1 Core Mechanics & Transit Laws
Mastering Country Labyrinth 4 requires a firm grasp of border tile placement, movement costs, visa management, and terrain restrictions.
Law 1: The Law of Geopolitical Continuity (Tile Placement)
- When placing a new Country or Transit Tile onto the world grid, at least one connecting route edge must connect logically to an existing open road or sea lane on an adjacent tile.
- A player cannot place a land tile directly against a deep-sea border edge without placing a Maritime Transit Tile or Port Connector between them.
Law 2: Convoy Movement & Terrain Costs
- Convoys move through connected transit paths across country tiles on the grid.
- Base Movement: A Convoy can move up to 4 tile steps per action point along standard paved transit routes.
- Terrain Modifiers: Crossing Mountain or Desert Hazard Tiles costs 2 movement points per tile unless equipped with a Terrain Adaptation Upgrade on your Navigator Dashboard.
Law 3: Border Control & Visa Checks
- Crossing from one Sovereign Country Tile into another requires passing through a Border Checkpoint.
- To cross a border, a player must spend 1 Visa Token or play a matching Diplomatic Visa Card.
- If a player lacks a valid Visa, their convoy must halt at the border tile until their next turn, or take an alternative maritime detour.
2.2 Game Setup
- Establish the World Canvas: Place the Central World Hemisphere Board in the center of the play area.
- Prepare the Tile Deck: Shuffle the 72 Country & Transit Tiles face-down into three region stacks (Coastal Regions, Inland Plains, Alpine & Desert Frontiers).
- Place Starting Hubs: Place the 4 major starting continental hub tiles (e.g., London, Cairo, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro) at designated compass positions on the grid.
- Distribute Player Equipment:
- Provide each player with a Navigator Reference Dashboard and 15 Expedition Convoys in their chosen color.
- Place 1 Convoy per player on their selected starting hub; place remaining convoys in their reserve.
- Give each player 3 Visa Tokens and 2 Diplomatic Visa Cards.
- Set score markers to 0 on the Expedition Ledger.
- Determine Lead Navigator: The player who most recently traveled to a foreign country, held a passport, or looked at an atlas goes first. Play proceeds clockwise.
2.3 Fundamental Tactics & Step-by-Step Play
Succeeding in Country Labyrinth 4 requires balancing rapid map expansion with efficient visa economy. Master players employ four primary strategic techniques:
Technique 1: The Oceanic Express
Focus early turns on connecting port tiles to form long maritime transit corridors. Maritime routes bypass land borders entirely, allowing your convoys to sail vast distances without spending precious Visa Tokens!
Technique 2: Strategic Chokepoint Blocking
Place mountain or border control tiles at critical land bridges (such as narrow continental meets). Forcing rival navigators through expensive border checkpoints delays their journey to lucrative capital hubs.
Technique 3: Regional Passport Stacking
Do not wander aimlessly. Target country tiles within a single geographic continent to complete regional passport sets before branching out globally to claim massive set-completion multipliers!
Technique 4: Tactical Visa Hoarding
Save your high-tier Diplomatic Visa Cards for late-game capital sprints. Playing a "Diplomatic Immunity" card allows your convoy to bypass sealed borders instantly and claim checkpoint bonuses before rivals.
2.4 Structure of a Play Session
A full game of Country Labyrinth 4 takes place over a series of rounds until the global tile deck is completely exhausted. Each player's turn consists of four structured operational phases:
- Phase 1: Map Expansion (Tile Placement)
- Draw the top tile from the active region stack.
- Place the tile onto the board following the Law of Geopolitical Continuity.
- If the placed tile displays a Capital or Passport symbol, place the corresponding Passport Stamp Token onto that space.
- Phase 2: Expedition Actions (4 Action Points)
- Spend 4 Action Points across your active Convoys to perform any combination of the following choices:
- Move Convoy: Advance a convoy along connected road, rail, or sea lanes.
- Cross Border: Spend a Visa Token to cross between country tiles.
- Claim Passport: Collect a Passport Stamp Token upon reaching a capital tile.
- Draw Visa Card: Spend 2 Action Points to draw a new Diplomatic Visa Card from the deck.
- Spend 4 Action Points across your active Convoys to perform any combination of the following choices:
- Phase 3: Geographic Challenge (Optional Bonus)
- Draw a Geographic Trivia Card. Correctly identifying the country's continent, capital, or bordering neighbors awards 1 Extra Visa Token or 100 Bonus Points.
- Phase 4: Turn Hand-Off & Ledger Update
- Check for regional set completions, update the score ledger, and pass the turn clockwise to the next player.
2.5 Action Costs & Scoring Matrix
| Action / Feature | Action Cost / Requirement | Base Point / Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Move Convoy (Paved Lane) | 1 Action Point per 4 Tiles | Rapid transit across terrain |
| Move Convoy (Hazard Tile) | 1 Action Point per 2 Tiles | Slow transit through rough terrain |
| Border Cross | 1 Action Point + 1 Visa Token | Grants access to adjacent country |
| Capital Checkpoint Visit | Reaching a Capital Tile | 200 Navigation Points + Stamp |
| Regional Passport Set (3 Stamps) | 3 Stamps from same Continent | 500 Bonus Points |
| Global Continental Set (5 Continents) | 1 Stamp from each Continent | 1,200 Major Milestone Points |
| Longest Transcontinental Line | Unbroken transit line across board | 800 End-Game Points |

- Longest Route Bonus: +800 Points to the player who constructed the longest unbroken road/sea corridor across the map.
- Remaining Visa Bonus: +50 Points for every unused Visa Token remaining on your dashboard.
- Unused Visa Cards: +100 Points per remaining Diplomatic Visa Card.
2.8 Game End & Victory Conditions
A game of Country Labyrinth 4 concludes under any of the following conditions:
- Tile Exhaustion: The global tile deck is completely empty and all players have completed their final turn.
- Target Score Reached: A player hits or exceeds the target point milestone in sprint mode.
- Capital Sweep: A player successfully collects a passport stamp from every available capital on the board.
The player with the highest overall Global Navigation Score (GNS) is officially declared the Master Explorer of Country Labyrinth!
Tie-Breakers
If two or more players tie for total points at the end of the game, resolve the tie using the following priority rules:
- The player who collected the highest number of unique Passport Stamps.
- The player with the most remaining Visa Tokens.
- The player who built the longest single Transcontinental Route.
2.9 Rule Clarifications & Cartographic Etiquette
- No Universal Blocking: Players cannot completely seal off a country tile so that no further entries or exits are possible. At least one open route out of every country must remain available or placeable.
- Sharing Routes: Multiple convoys from different players may occupy the same transit lane or country tile simultaneously. However, passport stamp pickups are strictly first-come, first-served!
- Port Conversions: Convoys transitioning from road lanes to sea lanes must stop at a Port Connector tile for 1 turn unless equipped with an Amphibious Transport Upgrade.
